Knit Shirt Sampling Brief: Composition, Weight and Collar Insert Details

A knit-shirt sample brief needs more than cotton and polyester percentages. Record weight, structure, stretch, shrinkage, care and collar-insert details before sampling.

Fiber content is only the starting point for a knit-shirt sampling brief.

“Cotton/polyester” is usually not a complete knit-shirt fabric brief. Knit structure, weight, stretch and collar construction affect fit, sewing and wash appearance, so they belong beside fiber content.

What is a useful starting point from a sample record?

One Mingsheng internal sample record notes 60% cotton and 40% polyester, a knit fabric, a soft hand feel and a visible collar insert. It gives the buyer three directions to follow: composition, structure and collar trim. It does not include weight, stretch, shrinkage or test results, so it cannot be expanded into a general knit-product capability claim.

Which fields should be added before sampling?

Information Why it matters Record
Composition and weight Thickness, drape and cost Percentages, weight range and method
Fabric structure Stretch, recovery and sewing Knit construction, width and direction
Stretch Collar, armhole and garment dimensions Crosswise/lengthwise stretch and tolerance
Shrinkage and care Finished size and appearance Wash condition, before/after size and samples
Collar insert Stability, thickness and attachment Material, size, position and sewing method

“Soft” is a feel description; it is not a test conclusion. “Cotton/polyester” is a composition; it is not the full fabric specification. If easy-care, wrinkle or dimensional stability is required, define the comparison or test separately.

How should a collar insert enter sample approval?

Confirm collar shape, insert coverage and attachment first. Then check the collar flat, on-body and after the agreed wash or conditioning step. Keep the insert version, fabric lot, collar measurement and revision note with the sample instead of relying on one front photo.

Mingsheng's core business is woven-shirt OEM/ODM. A knit or woven-knit combination needs a project-specific review of fabric, construction, quantity and equipment/workmanship conditions. Send the fabric card and collar close-up through the OEM/ODM inquiry page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is fiber content enough to start a knit-shirt sample?

Usually not. Weight, structure, width, stretch, shrinkage, color and hand feel can change the pattern and sewing route.

Why should the collar insert be specified separately?

It affects collar stability, thickness, sewing and wash appearance. Confirm the material, size, position and attachment method.

Does “soft” describe a measurable performance?

No. It is a hand-feel description and does not prove easy care, wrinkle resistance, shrinkage or wear performance.
