“How much does a wholesale shirt cost?” has no useful one-number answer until the buyer identifies what the quoted price includes. A stocked shirt sold by style, a custom OEM order and an imported garment delivered to a warehouse are different transactions. Compare them only after product, quantity and delivery assumptions are visible.
Three prices buyers often mix together
| Quote type | What the price refers to | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Ready-stock wholesale | Existing styles, sizes, colors and inventory | Available units, stock lot, replenishment, packing and defect handling |
| OEM/ODM factory quote | Production against the buyer's specification | Fabric, trims, construction, color and size split, MOQ, labels, packing and inspection |
| Landed import cost | Product plus some combination of freight, insurance, duty, tax or clearance | Origin, destination, Incoterm, customs scope and the party responsible for each cost |
A marketplace unit price is not automatically comparable with an ex-factory quote. Nor should an EXW, FOB, CIF or DDP total be ranked without checking which costs and responsibilities each term includes.
What changes a custom shirt quote?
Fiber content and fabric weight matter, but they are only part of the specification. Collar and cuff construction, buttons, embroidery or print, color count, size ratio, branded trims, packing, inspection and order quantity can also change the production plan.
To compare factories fairly, send the same brief to each one:
- Style images, a reference sample or a complete tech pack, plus the final measurement chart.
- Fabric composition, weave, weight, color and whether the buyer supplies the material.
- Total quantity and the quantity by style, color and size.
- Logo files, special workmanship, brand labels, hangtags and packing requirements.
- Sample, inspection, wastage, freight and tax assumptions.
- Destination, Incoterm, requested delivery date and quote validity.
If a quote says “all-in,” ask for included and excluded items, fabric-substitution rules, packing and inspection scope. The shirt OEM quotation and MOQ cost breakdown explains how to read those cost blocks.
How to assess a low quote
Normalize the specification first. Check whether each quote uses the same fabric and trims, sample approval, inspection standard, packing, production quantity and delivery term. A lower number may exclude labels, testing, freight or final inspection; adding those items can change the comparison.
For stock, verify the actual SKU and available quantity. For custom production, connect the sealed sample, pre-production approval and bulk inspection to one written standard. Fabric availability alone does not mean finished shirts are in stock or that every color can be replenished on demand.
A short factory RFQ template
Product: woven shirt; style file or sample: attached; fabric: composition, weight and color; quantity: total and by color; size range and ratio; logo and special workmanship; labels and packing; inspection requirement; destination and Incoterm; requested delivery date. Please state MOQ assumptions, included and excluded costs, lead-time conditions and quote validity.
Mingsheng's current ordinary-project MOQ reference is 500 pieces for a shirt order, subject to style, fabric, color, size mix, workmanship and scheduling. We do not publish a unit price detached from those inputs. Send a complete brief through the OEM/ODM service page, and use the small-batch MOQ guide to plan quantity splits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a wholesale shirt cost?
There is no single price for every shirt. Ready-stock, custom OEM and landed import costs include different product, quantity and delivery assumptions.
How is a shirt's factory cost calculated?
A quote may include fabric consumption and wastage, trims, cutting and sewing, pressing, special workmanship, labels and packing, sampling or inspection, plus any freight or tax included in the agreed scope. Ask suppliers to price the same specification and state exclusions.
What makes up shirt wholesale and sourcing cost?
Separate the garment or factory price from minimum quantity, color and size splits, packing, freight, duties, warehousing and defect handling. A ready-stock purchase and a custom OEM order are different cost models.
Is a wholesale price the same as an OEM factory price?
Not necessarily. A wholesale listing may refer to an existing style and available stock, while an OEM quote is calculated from the buyer's materials, construction, quantity, branding, packing and delivery scope.
What should I send a shirt factory for a quote?
Provide a style image or tech pack, measurement chart, fabric composition and weight, colors, size ratio, quantity, logo, labels, packing, target date and Incoterm.
